Be a Hero for the Homeless Laptop

It’s Launched!

Our site for the “Be a Hero for the Homeless” Virtual 5k Walk/Run is up…and “running.” And it’s so easy for you to participate! Just register here and get started! Though our goal with the virtual 5k is to raise funds for Joshua’s House Hospice, $100,000 to be exact, which will offset the nearly $800,000 we still need to break ground on construction, we also want this to be a fun, community event. Anyone can participate…individuals, families, well-seasoned runners, or the casual walker. All you need to do is register and log your 5k (3.1 miles) completion by the end of day on Saturday, October 17th. See, so easy!

Tshirt and Medal

Challenge Friends and Family

Registration for the event is only $45 (plus a $3 service fee), and you’ll receive a t-shirt and finisher’s medal. You’ll also have the bragging rights that come with being a Hero for the Homeless! Use our special #BeAHeroForTheHomeless5K hashtag on your social media posts so that everyone can see you’re a part of this wonderful effort!

And to make it even more fun we encourage you to challenge family, friends, and co-workers. You can even set up your own Workplace, Friends & Family, or Competitive Team while registering. If they’d rather just donate, you can direct them to do that on our site, but you yourself can set up a page for fundraising (much like a Facebook fundraiser) – this is a great additional option to bring in donations. Will you please help by doing your part to make this fundraiser a success?

What it Comes Down to

The “Be a Hero for the Homeless” Virtual 5K Walk/Run will bring us one step closer to finally realizing the dream of opening Joshua’s House Hospice. Sacramento desperately needs a place for terminally ill homeless men and women to receive care and compassion in their last days on earth!

Homeless sleeping

We fear that homeless numbers will keep rising as COVID-19 continues to set in. The rise in homeless numbers naturally also increases the numbers of terminally ill on the streets and living on the riverbanks of Sacramento. We must open our doors as soon as we possibly can to serve this part of our community whose needs have fallen by the wayside for so long! You can help us do this.

Sponsorship Help Needed

Lastly, we’re looking for sponsors. Please share our sponsorship brochure with anyone you may know who would be interested in sponsoring the 5k. There are many levels to choose from and we would be most grateful for the support! If there are any questions, please contact Marlene von Friederichs-Fitzwater at fitzm@hcri.com Thank you!!
