Our Mission – to end the tragic history of vulnerable unhoused people dying on the streets of Sacramento by providing hospice/supportive comfort for, and restoring the dignity of, terminally ill homeless men and women.
Six ADA-compliant manufactured homes have been purchased in 2021 and are in production with delivery expected by January 2023. Five of the three-bedroom homes will house 15 eligible terminally ill, homeless men and women discharged from Dignity Health, Sutter Health, UC Davis Health, Kaiser Permanent and Yolo Cares. The discharging health system will provide quality hospice care to its patients and Joshua’s House will provide shelter, meals, clothing, art/music therapy. The sixth house will have office spaces, meeting rooms and storage areas.
The site for Joshua’s House is 3630 Larchwood Drive, Sacramento, CA 95834 on a slightly larger than an acre piece of property bordered by Larchwood Drive, Patio Avenue and Northgate Blvd. The property will be completely fenced with a wrought iron fence and landscaping that will include flowering bushes and trees.
The Health Communication Research Institute, Inc. is a nonprofit established in 1989 with a commitment to reduce health disparities through community-based research and program development. In 2015, HCRI, Inc. narrowed its focus to better understanding the healthcare needs of the homeless population; developing programs to address those needs; and creating Joshua’s House, a hospice house for the terminally ill homeless.
